New Hair Trends 2019

Why not ring in the new year with a brand new look?

We’ve spoken to some of the hottest hairdressers in the business to find out what trends you should be sporting in 2019.

COLOR

“Baby lights will also be seen everywhere throughout 2019. Think bright blondes that are slightly softer than the classic platinum shade,” says the owner of Perfectly Posh Hair Design Krysia Eddery.Eiza Gonzalez's super shiny bob will be right on trend in 2019.

Eiza Gonzalez’s super shiny bob will be right on trend in 2019.

“This tricks the eye into seeing sunkissed, brightened blonde and leaves your hair glistening as unique pearls of blonde are unveiled.”

If you’re dark, Scottish Hairdresser of the Year Karen Thomson, owner of KAM Hair and Body Spa, is pioneering “chocolate brunettes with high-shine and inky blacks – the glossier the better”.

Neil Barton, Goldwell Ambassador and Owner of Neil Barton is expecting to see the grey ombre trend rise in popularity, emphasising darker roots and lighter grey ends, while Carly Price, a hairdresser at Muse of London predicts a flurry of bright colours.

“Think sunshine yellows, petrol blues, fiery oranges and fuchsia pinks,” she suggests.

CUT

The year 2019 is all about the bob, according to Suzie McGill and Dylan Brittain, Schwarzkopf UK ambassadors and international artistic directors at Rainbow Room International.

“Blunt bobs are extremely popular coming into 2019 and we will see sharper, blunter finishes without texture and layers,” they say.

Blunt bobs like Bella Hadid’s will be hot this year.

“Super cropped pixie cuts have also become more popular in the salon, and these are edgy, sexy, cool and are so easy to manage.”

For those who don’t fancy going for the chop, growing hair out is just as trendy.

“Length is going to be on trend for 2019. Unimaginably long hair that pushes boundaries is set to be at the forefront,” notes celebrity stylist Jay Birmingham, celebrity stylist and owner of Jay Birmingham Hair.

If you’re not up for going short, go super long, like J-Lo.

STYLE

“Texture and that ‘undone’ look are set to be popular during 2019. Add texture with products like sea salt for longer hair,” recommends Ross Charles, owner of Ross Charles Hairdressing.

“For shorter lengths, use a clay wax to add a textured edge to your style.”

Braids are going nowhere, with Victoria Gifford, creative director at SESH Hairdressing, explaining that we will be “moving away from the classic French plait and embracing new cool techniques”.

Emma Stone’s up-do isn’t going anywhere in 2019.

Suzie McGill and Dylan Brittain believe hair accessories “from larger statement pieces to delicate clips and ribbons” will prove popular in 2019, and Neil Barton is pleased that the updo is here to stay.

“Think sleek topknots, messy buns and high ponytails. Hairstyles that get all your hair out your face, and are easy to create yet look fabulous,” he says.
